Bad service ever

This debt collectors are not professional they called me saying my old mutual account is being handed over to them, then I told them I paid the account and it's closed they asked for proof of payment I send them a paid up letter now when I check my credit report the MBD has listed me on credit bureau. After asking them why they tell me they don't know how and they can't help me how possible is that
