My husband and I went to Jetour Johannesburg South, also known as Mazda Johannesburg South. It was not the first time we had bought a car from them, so we were very comfortable dealing with them. Little did we know that they would take advantage of us. We spoke to Petro, our sales consultant, and told her that the only extras we wanted were anti-smash and grab and mag wheels. Their process was very quick. I then received a call from Chante, who told me that my deal was approved. I was driving at the time, and she started mentioning additional items that were added to our deal. Since we had previously bought a car from them, I did not expect her to include body maintenance, tyre repair, and extended warranty on a brand-new car — even worse, without our consent. She kept pushing me to sign the contract, which I only received via SMS. I eventually signed the contract, only to realize later that I had allowed myself to be exploited by this dealership. The day after signing, my husband and I informed Chante that we did not want those extras. She was furious but eventually agreed to cancel them. However, out of R25,000, we were only refunded R11,000 — and she couldn’t explain why. We have been trying to resolve this issue since July 2025. When we went to collect the car, we were told that Chante was leaving early and that we needed to hurry. When I got to her desk, all she said was, “These are the documents you’ve already signed,” without offering any explanation. The anti-smash and grab were not added, the mag wheels were not added either — but they included what benefited them, not me as the customer. I asked them what policy gives them the right to add additional products without consulting the client first. Shouldn’t they ask me before submitting my application to the bank if I want an extended warranty? I also asked how they calculated the refund of R11,000 instead of the full R25,000. Who is benefiting while customers are being exploited by dealerships? Another issue is that when our old car was settled, we had a change of R124,000. That amount was already added to the bank finance to cover a shortfall on our previous account. When we enquired about the R124,000 that the bank had already paid, we were told it was paid for VAT. We asked for proof, but they said there was none — it “gets paid behind the system.” We had to fight for that money before it was eventually paid back to us. Then, we had issues with the aircon not heating. I had to go to the dealer four times and was repeatedly told that the car was fine, even though I was freezing while driving. I felt I was not taken seriously, probably because I am a woman — and worse, a black woman — because they only agreed to check the aircon after my husband intervened.
