Bad experience with Master Parts

Needed to overhaul a Jeep Wrangler 2.8Crd. Searched on the internet and found that Masterparts stocked parts for Jeep. First of all to get through to the Bellville branch was painful as the phones just rang. Eventually got through to the Master Parts Montague Gardens. A vin number was supp**** and after battling to get proper quotes as the salesman gave me photos of his computer screen.

A payment was made and the first set of parts bought. I couriered it myself from Cape Town to Pretoria. On arrival it was found that fan belt, tensioner and piston rings were incorrect. I Phoned Master Parts Montague Gardens and explained that the piston rings were incorrect. The salesman sent me specification (Thickness of the rings) of the second alternative piston rings. I made payment again and couriered it myself again. Thicknesses were identical to old rings.

The engine was assembled and that is where the problem started. engine kept on going into an "under boost" situation, white smoke and no power and after extensive fault finding found that the engine had major blow by.

We then proceeded to strip the pistons out again and did a comparison again to the old rings. It was then found that the old rings had collapsed so the tension against the cylinder wall is compromised. I also noticed that the 1st and 2nd piston rings doesn't have grooves like old rings.

When I explained this to their appointed warranty guy, he was trying to insinuate that I do not know what I am doing and started explaining that they have disclaimers on the invoice. The invoice only stated to consult their salesman on certain item - The piston rings.

The long and the short is that I gave them a Vin number, I even measured the ring thicknesses. Master Parts supp**** parts that doesn't work and now they don't want to support a claim for sub standard part supp****. Not even to talk about the labour cost, oil and head/sump gaskets I had to replace again.

Their service is appalling and parts ****.
