Tombstone place at the incorrect location by Reitz Martins Funerals

During the period of 2019, our family utilized the services of Reitz Martins Funerals and purchased two tombstones i.e., (for my mother and sister). The company was provided with the two grave numbers on where the tombstones are to be built.

The two tombstones we successfully installed; however, my sister’s tombstone was place at the incorrect location i.e., 242 instead of 240. The graveyard was an open feld at the time and my sister who was 50 years at the time, was in charge of the arrangements (liaising with Martins etc.,) as the results, could not pick up that the stone was at the incorrect location, and this is understandable as the family was going through an emotional time.

All the ceremonies took place successfully, until last year (2023), when we received a call from the family belonging to the grave 242, notifying us of the issue. Upon the discovery, my family went to the municipality to validate the claim and it was confirmed that the stone is at the wrong place.

We then made contact with Reitz Martins Funerals, and unfortunately the staff were horribly rude to my family, and I decided to contact the manager or the person in charge. The meeting was held and the manager promised to escalate the superiors.

Our request was to remove the incorrectly placed tombstone and be taken by Martins as a deposit for a new one, and our family will settle the balance, since both parties are at fault. On 3 June 2024, the manager contacted me stating that our request was declined by his superiors.

There are lots of costs involved in redoing the ceremony, including apologizing to the inconvenienced family, therefore it is only fair that Reitz Martins funerals takes responsibility for their mess as well.

I find it ridiculous that they are distancing themselves to this mess-up as they organized the contractors to assist in placing the tombstones. This can only mean that no quality assurance was conducted by the Service Provider.
