More than a year to close an account and reverse charges for service fees charged in error

I opened an account with Markham in 2019 or late 2018 while employed on a contract basis. The account was blocked after six months in anticipation of the end of my contract in six months. I could not use the account because it was blocked, but they charged me a service fee nonetheless. The status of the account remains the same up to now after many calls and endless frustration. When I first became aware of the service charge, I contacted them to close the account and reverse the charge. The call centre agent assured me that the account was being closed and the charges reversed. This scenario was repeated many times over from then until now. Every time I call, I have to explain the situation to a new, seemingly ********, ***********, inept and sometimes rude person who promises to close the account and reverse the charge. In the most recent episode, which transpired this week, I insisted on speaking to a supervisor. After a year or more of phone calls, I finally got to speak to the elusive and all evasive, precious supervisor. The supervisor who identified herself as Alicia spoke calmly and reassuringly and was most apologetic while I could hear her typing. I asked her to send me an email to confirm all the promises she made during the call. She said that she would do that as soon as she got back to her office as she was at an agents station. I sent her a reminder of her promise, but I did not receive the promised email from her or the many others promised during the course of the year or so that I am dealing with them. I rechecked my balance today and found she only cleared this month's charges to keep the hounding harassing collections department at bay, who call my wife and me at least 4 times daily to demand payment. My balance is still showing that I owe them R 310 for an assortment of charges which included R20 per email they never sent. How difficult is it for agents and supervisors to be honest with customers and do what they promise? I am not paying you this money on principle. It is an extorsion to charge me for an account that was blocked more than a year ago and for the incompetence of TFG staff as a collective. If it were not for the harassment of the equally *********** collections department and dread for the effort it takes to clear my now damaged credit record, I would ignore this nonsense.
