Markham lawyers, nowhere to be found

My Husband have to buy a property and the bank told him that he owes R270 for markham that he is not aware of since he finished making payments last year , and when he visited the branch he was told that there’s nothing they can do because the matters are held by the laws and he was not given any contact details of the lawyer or anyone, the shop cashier promised that they will call him back which they haven’t. The bank is waiting for the letter of what is happening and we can’t get help anywhere.
