My Memorable Journey with Marie Stopes Pretoria!

My journey with Marie stopes pretoria branch began on the 22nd of January 2024. I went in for my T.O.P appointment. From the security, receptionist and the nurse who took my vitals, everyone was so kind. I was then called in to the consultation room, Thats when I met a nurse by the name sis Martha she was so kind and welcoming when i entered the consultation room. According to my last menstrual period, i was 4w2 days pregnant. She explained to me that it might be too soon to see the pregnancy on the scan. Indeed it was too soon to see it, she then went on and did a transviganal scan, which did not hurt at all, still there was no evidence of pregnancy. She went ahead and told me that she cannot continue with the termination procedure because she is not sure if it is a normal pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy which made me realise that the nurses at Marie Stopes are so genuine. She then gave me a date to return for a scan after 2 weeks. I returned to the clinic on the 12th of February, sis Martha then performed a scan and there it was! I was 6W5 days far along. I elected on the medical procedure, she then gave me 4 pills to take whilst in the consultation room and 8 to take at different time slots. She gave clear instructions, explained in detail what to expect and that the procedure can fail and that if it fails, Marie stopes will perform a Surgical procedure at no cost to me & when to call the call center and also explained the different types of contraceptives that i can use and their side effects and the best way to take them she then handed me a pregnancy test to take 4 weeks post the procedure. On the 11th of March i took the pregnancy test which came out positive, I didn’t panic at all because i knew right away that Marie stopes is just a phone call away, i called the call center and explained and they booked me in the next day. I went in and i was helped by the other sweet nurse ( i forgot her name)who heard that my voice was shaky, she made me laugh and i loosened up. She them did a pregnancy test, after the test she did a scan and explained to me that my womb closed before it could empty everything and now we are going to have to do the surgical procedure and explained in detail how it feels without sedation and how it feels with sedation, i opted for the one with sedation. On the procedure day sis Martha took me through the whole process, what to expect before and after sedation and what i might feel after the procedure, i went in for my procedure, the sedation Doctor was so kind he kept chatting to me asking me about what I’m doing in life as he was inserting the cannula, he then said i am sending you to Dubai😂, the last thing I remember is a funny taste in my mouth and i was out! When i woke up i was in the recovery room, i didn't feel any pain, i don’t even remember the procedure. After 14 days i took a pregnancy test which came out positive and another one after 20 days because of cause it was too soon to test. I then started panicking and told my self that the surgical procedure also failed! I was so devastated and i went on to the Marie stopes site and wrote a complaint. Guess what? The following day i received numerous calls from Marie Stopes nurses trying to understand what was going on! I sat and cried alone and i was like this is exceptional, i just wrote a mere complaint and this is the response that i am getting! I was thrilled i don't want to lie! They scheduled an appointment for me today and i went in with the hope that the pregnancy tests that were false. And indeed voila! The pregnancy test at the clinic displayed negative results! Didn’t i cry because of joy? Oh yes i did😁. The nurse went ahead and did a scan and she even showed me the scan, there was nothing left! I was so happy, seeing the relief on the nurses face made me so emotional. On top of that she gave me an additional pregnancy test to test in the morning so that i can free my mind. I walked out with a big smile. If i have to spread out the word about the service at Marie Stopes pretoria i would, with no shame! I am beyond impressed! I will forever cherish my journey with Marie Stopes. I really recommend marie stopes to everyone. I can’t really say my journey with them has come to an end, i will be going in for my contraceptives on a monthly basis because it now feels like home.
