CANNOT BE TRUSTED

This place cannot be trusted. Roughly two weeks ago, my wife and I visited Mary Stoppes Berea for the Birth Control implant. After waiting for long after our appointment, my wife was in with the sister for only a few minutes before coming out. She suggested that we speak to our family doctor first as she was worried about the sideeftects on my wife. After that we could come back. She told us we could either take a full refund and pay again if we return, or not take a refund and pay nothing when returning.

We decided to take the refund in case our doctor said not to take the implant. We filled our details on a form for R1850, the fee paid. The sister said the refund would be 1850 and filled this value herself. We asked her if they would take out a consult fee and she said no, because nothing at all was done. I then asked how the refund worked because we had heard complaints of people never getting redunds. To this, a man behind the counter said he had never heard such a thing and refunds were always giving without problems.

When returning last Friday, we had only received R1750 as a refund and were told we needed to pay another R1850. When we brought this up to THE SAME man who had spoken up to us previously, he said sorry but the sister should never have told us a full refund as a consult was given and if he was there he would have said something. He was sorry, but we had to pay in full.

We don't mind the extra R100, but it is the principal behind it. This same man had heard things spoken previously and even took it upon himself to comment, now told us instead, "if he was there". We had also made a point to ask if a consult fee would be taken out and were told no because no actual consult was given.

On top of this, my wife was left badly bruced through a poorly done procedure and not even given or prescribed anti-biotics after being warned of the possibilty of infection.

This is a horrible place and the experience has left us wishing we had never even considered them.

Dear Craig. Please accept our most sincere apologies for the miscommunication around the refund. Unfortunately, the discussion your wife had with the nurse around the possible contraindications, etc was a consultation. This should have been properly communicated to you. Apologies for any inconveniences caused and the experience.

Sorry. I disagree. It was properly communicated. I specifically asked if a consultation fee would be taken off the refund because of the time she was with the nurse but was told that it would not be. A second staff member was also present - who was the same staff member who later said that if he was present he would have cleared it up - yet he was present and even himself said the refund would be given.

I have no problem with the fact that a consult was paid for, as I was expecting this initially. I have a problem with the principal. It should not be our problem that Mary Stoppes said the wrong thing. Mary Stoppes should be true to their word and what was said - especially under the customer protection act. Mary Stoppes should have had the integrity to stick to what they had told us.
