Unbothered security team by victimized customer at Maponya mall
On this day 18 August 2022, Wednesday at this address 2373 Hliso St, Klipspruit, Soweto, 1809 Maponya Mall. I was there for shopping at Pick n’ Pay, while I was still there shopping inside the store two guys – (a short and tall guy) approached me, one of them claimed to be an employee in the store and introduced himself as “Ephram” said he works for Pick n’ Pay while the other one “Tshepo” acted as if he was a customer like me. They both then after few minutes ****med me an amount of R2850.00 including my mobile phone A02s Samsung Galaxy, my FNB Card with the pin and the new Clothes. After I’ve realised that I was ****med I quickly went inside the mall to go look for them and they were not there to be found. Terrified I was I reported the crime incident to a security (Fidelity) guy who work inside the mall and he did not take me seriously even after I’ve explained to him what has just happened, he then further said to me “sorry sis there is noting we can do for you” while he was saying that he was then with one of his colleagues. I then went outside the mall to search for help cos it was getting darker and darker- needed help with taxi fair to go back home because I had no money with me. I went inside to the same security guys and asked them to help with at least R50 to catch uber, still there was no help not even some sense of emergency from them. Scared and stressed I was I again went outside to try some lucks asking lifts from uber drivers who were picking up people from the mall yet no luck still. After about 2 hours while standing outside trying my luck with the lifts seeing that now its completely dark and cold, I went back inside to look for the Management Office. When I find the office, a security came out from the control room asked how can he help me. I explained everything to him and I included and said apparently, I’m not the first crime victim of such a **** by the very same people at this mall. He said to me he can not help, there is nothing they can do. A minute or 2 his colleague came out from the same room (same guy whom I first reported to) both said the same thing. I asked them to help me with some cash to go back home, or to help call the police for me. They said the police are not going to come I asked why because this is a crime incident and I’m the victim, one security guy said to me the police are not going to come for such an incident. What happened to me is no thing serious. I then said okay, please call them so that they can take me back home he then said again they not going to come. He then asked me to write my personal information on the white paper which they offered me, when I ask what are they going to do with my information he said we going to keep it so that if it happens, we see those perpetrators we can call you. Then I said to them the current help I need is for you to call the police to come to my rescue. Still, they refused. They then asked me to give them a number of anyone I know who has money who can try to help- they insisted of which I tried but because I was terrified and confused, I couldn’t think of any number. They said I should try to think harder of anyone who has money to help me I then said no one can because I’m the one who had money of which now I don’t. I then asked them to give me back that paper which has my details and said to them you have failed to help me. Worse of it this is not the first time happening in your mall, you don’t even have warning pictures of these guys to warn us about such people to prevent a customer to find themselves in such crime incident. The security responded to me and said you should listen to radio they talk about it every time and I said to him not everyone is always on radio during working hours. To me it was now obvious that I’m not receiving help I decided to leave the place- leaving it now with fear of what are they going to do with my information because from the beginning they were not interested in helping but in finding out who has money that I can contact. Just before I left the building the other security guy approached, I then said to him, you and your security team have failed me. I’m the customer in this mall yet there is nothing you did to help me. After saying that it is when this other security guy speaks to his other colleagues to drive me home – that happens after some random guy give me R50. I honestly don’t want to lie; it was not safe nor dangerous to jump in that car but because it was now very late I didn’t want to see myself sleeping outside the mall. Well, today 19 August 2022 I opened the case against the Maponya mall of the crime that happened and that the Fidelity security team failed me as a crime victim of which I’m the first to experience such. I have a case number and all. It is quite clear that customers are not safe at Maponya mall even though it has a security team. I’m traumatized by the whole incident and still in shock!
