Double pricing and quarter star treatment!!

I had made a booking at Maperemishe Lodge for Friday the 17th of June to check out on Monday the 20th of June. I then contacted the lodge directly asking to extend my stay and check in on Thursday instead of Friday which a lady by the name of Sylvia agreed to, she then advised me that the pricing of R350 she had given me was for a single instead of a double room which is what I needed at the time for my partner and I.

She advised me that an extra R300 will need to be paid forward since I had already paid R1050 for the 3 days I had booked before via the Rooms For Africa website. I had no problem with that and I agreed to settle the bill upon my arrival.

My mother and I then decided to pay a visit to the lodge before checking in just to view it before arriving with my guest, I was met by an open gate with no security but I just assumed that they were somewhere around the vicinity. I was met by a gentleman by the name of Lotta who showed me to the room I'll be spending the night in and I liked what I saw, but requested a blanket to be provided as it was quite chilly that evening, and he promised to provide for the evening. My mother and I also raised concerns about the security but he reassured us that he'll be in the next room the entire night if we need him. He handed me the room keys.

Just as we were about to leave he asked for a room payment of R350, I asked him if the room if the room is R350 or R450 and he said that the room that my partner and I being placed in costs R350 a night because the bigger and more expensive rooms are fully booked. I thought that was my stroke of luck and I agreed to pay it when I return with my plus 1.

I then returned with my plus one around 9:30 pm again to a wide open gate and no security again and Lotta was nowhere to be found to raise our concerns about it. We got into the room and there was still no blanket provided, so we slept throughout the night with a duvet which provided no heat whatsoever. Then when morning came, to our surprise there was no running water, it then returned after a few hours and it was freezing cold. We then decided to check out and discussed our issues with Lotta who met them with understanding and also offered an alternative but to be honest, the damage was already done and we asked him to deduct the R350 for Thursday night from the money we had already paid forward and he agreed.

We then asked about the process that needs to be taken to receive our refund, and they referred us back to Rooms for Africa, which was confusing to us because the invoice from Rooms For Africa directly states that refunds are to be discussed with the facility.

But without getting too much into it, I emailed Rooms for Africa and they advised us that the establishment will only be giving us a refund of R442, instead of the full R700 which I declined due to the establishments incompetence being the reason we had to look for other accommodation, which was an expense we didn't budget for. The establishment later came back saying that we were meant to get a refund of R600 but they will be paying Rooms For Africa with a portion of the refund money, which brings us back to R442. This I found unfair because their payment to Rooms for Africa has nothing to do with our situation. We then continued with the back and forth via email but still had no breakthrough.

Please advise if there's anything else that can be done to settle this matter. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you.
