Theft by crew

On 16 March 2017 I caught the 1430 flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Mange JE 147. On disembarking I forgot a plastic Woolworths shopping bag with a new cell phone and a box of accessories on the plane in the overhead stowage. I realized this as I entered the airport building and tried to turn back. Security would not let me go back and I went to Mango baggage enquirers right at the entrance to ask for help. One of the staff, Sidwell, went out to the plane for me. He returned empty handed and even though I described the shopping bag, and my seat number, he said that the crew remembered me and that they had taken my bag to check it in the hold. This was obviously incorrect. What was more suspicious was that I was the only male in row 30, so they could not have confused me with a lady opposite, who did have her bag checked in. I asked him what I could do and he gave me guest care number and told me to call, and report the case to SAPS. I tried calling Guest Care, but after holding for 20 minutes, the recording came on to tell me it was after 1700 and business hours. SAPS logged the case, and said it happened very often. They also said that if it was left on the plane, there was no chance of getting it back.

The next day I spoke to Guest Care, and as the agent was not helpful, I asked to speak to a supervisor. No do said this was the first time she had heard of an incident like mine. I asked her what the procedure was for clearing the cabin, who was accountable, etc. I sent an email a day for 14 days and called relentlessly. The only two numbers that are manned at Mango are the call centre for booking enquiries and the Guest Care number. To get through to this number, takes a minimum holdings period of 20 minutes. I requested a call back with feedback from Nondi, but this never happened. I called again on 6 April, and the agent Siya, promised that the supervisor, Noliswa, would call back by 1600. It is almost 1600 the next day and no call. I asked the agent to put me through to Cecil the manager, but apparently this is technically not possible.

I do not suspect any passengers, as I was one of the first, out, and watched the rest of the passengers disembark. Nobody, was carrying my bag. The cleaning crew are searched daily, but are very honest. They return items continuously to Mango Baggage enquiries. The last entry I saw in the log was for a wallet found with R600 cash in it, that was left in a seat pocket. So this leaves the cabin crew, who are supposed to move through the cabin in pairs checking for left behind articles, which are handed over to a member of ground staff before the plane is cleaned. So either the cabin crew stole the bag, or did not do their work properly. This I find disconcerting, as having dishonest staff is bad enough, but when people's lives depend on their integrity, I get worried.

I want to know who the senior person was on the flight as I fly regularly on Mango, and would like to discuss my loss with said person. I want to know what Mango are going to do with the crew on the flight, as they are definitely under suspicion. I asked Nondi the supervisor what Mango would do as my goods were ****** from their plane. She said firstly I should take better care of my stuff, and secondly she believed it was a Mango customer that stole it.

That is why I wanted to speak to somebody senior in Mango, as the customer care staff were obviously not focused on their customers.

I have yet to get any call backs or decent responses to my emails. I did receive two responses, but not all my questions were answered.
