No process in place

I left one of my pieces of carry-on baggage on the 8:55 flight from Cape Town to OR Tambo on the plane. Obviously as soon as we were off the plane I realised it and went to Baggage service to request their assistance. My husband is blind and I concentrated on helping him get off the plane and because I'm short and another passenger had put his luggage on top of mine, it moved to the back of the overhead compartment, I I did not see it and therefore forgot about it getting off the plane. The response was that they did not see it, and the plane was boarding for another flight and quite simply that's the end of the story. In my view, I believe that there should be a clear process of all left carry-one luggage to be taken out of a plane when it lands and sent through to the ground.
