Make double the money off of you

I recently arrived 10 min too late for my flight (I arrived at check-in at 11:40am and departure was at 12:15pm). But then the flight was delayed and instead of letting me on the flight the airline made me pay extra for a new flight - the following flight. This is not professional - they should have let me onto the original flight considering that it was late anyway.
