As I boarded the plane at King Shaka International Airport I was told that my hand luggage was to large (after it had already been approved at check-in). I explained that I had used this hand luggage many times before with no issues. However, Mangos airport attendant insisted that I leave my hand luggage with him to secure as he would not allow me to take it with me to my seat. It was to late for my bag to be checked in as normal luggage so, it appears that it was left in the care of the air-hostesses in their designated area. This was hand luggage therefore it was not locked, due to being informed about this while embarking onto the aircraft I did not have any time to lock my bag before it was taken. I tried to remove as many valuables as I could in that short space of time. When my flight landed at Lanseria I found my hand luggage on the tarmac at the bottom of the stairs leading off the plane. I checked my hand luggage and immediately noticed my perfume was missing. I was devasted as it was a newly opened bottle of DKNY which is valued over R1000. I reported this to the Mango counter and was told that they will not log a complaint about a ****** 'deodrant'. After insisting that my complaint be taken seriously it was apparently logged.
I am so disgusted: 1. A Mango staff member who was supposed to keep my luggage safe rummaged through my personal belongings 2. Stole my DKNY perfume 3. Mango did not see the seriousness that two crimes had been committed
I will not be flying Mango again and will tell my family and friends of my experience, encouraging them to do the same.
