Damage to bag/lock removed and ****** charger
Good day,
I first sent an email to ********** which I was given by the lady at the Mango counter at OR tambo baggage claims, however the email keeps bouncing/is undeliverable? Is there any email address with mango that actually works/customers can send their complaints to?
I wish to lay a complaint with Mango. I was on flight JE548 from Port Elizabeth to OR Tambo Johannesburg last night, 2nd September. My case reference number is 12653. Despite the flight being delayed by an hour (for which I know the cause was weather related), when I picked my bag up off the carousel, I noticed my lock had been broken off as well as the little handles which are used to close the zip of the bag had been removed. It seems that something was used to remove those little handles which you pull the zip closed with in order to get the lock off.
I proceeded straight to the mango counter where I laid a complaint. Just because a flight is delayed does that mean the airport staff have more time to go through peoples luggage and help themselves? I realise that this also could have happened at OR Tambo, as I must add that the carousel did stop and start a few times, with the baggage assistant continuously sticking his head through the flaps to see what was going on behind the them as well as that the luggage took longer than usual to come out. I feel like the controls over safeguarding luggage are very poor. We weighed the bag at the counter and there did not seem to be a difference in weight besides a few grams. When I opened my bag however, I found the contents to be a mess and my Samsung cellphone charger had been taken. It was quite clear someone had gone through my luggage and messed everything up while trying to scrounge for something valuable they could take. My bag is damaged and with the zips handles needing to be replaced - I either need to find someone who can fix it, buy a new bag or wrap my bag each time going forward. All options create an additional cost and time wasted.
I have never experienced this yet with my luggage and find it absolutely appalling that something like this would happen on the weekend of the Ironman World champion race. I only wonder how many overseas guests have been affected. Surely the airline should know that with so many international guests travelling this weekend that extra precautions should be taken with regards to theft and safeguarding of luggage. I just find it an absolute embarrassment that things like this should happen especially on a weekend where we have so much international exposure.
