Miscommunication can be very costly.

The heading could also have been “Miscommunication can be very profitable” if taken from the MANCOSA perspective.

I went to an open day end of last year for the MANCOSA MBA where it was explained that this was a flexible program which allows you up to 4 years to finish the program, so you can fit this in with your normal work load. I was then further urged to pay ASAP to qualify for the 2016 fees. My company was willing to sponsor me for this course and paid the full initial fee. When I then approach MANCOSA earlier this year to indicate which subjects I am prepared to take on for the 1st year based on my work schedule, I was told that I have to pay for all subjects and then repay for those subjects that I left for the next semester or year. (Thus not as flexible as explained to me during the open day). MANCOSA then agreed to refund me if I canceled, as the initial information provided was not correct. Was informed that the cancellation procedure will start as soon as the registration period is over, ending at 31 March.

Once this process eventually started, the initial feedback I received suddenly indicated that I would be liable for the full amount of the initial payment. After some further communication it was decided by MANCOSA that I was liable for the registration fee of R7500. I had no choice to accept this, as I had to repay the full amount to my company. Thus my first priority was to at least get some money back so that I could repay my organization. After various follow up queries I finally got this part of the refund towards the end of July. I then had to personally add another R7 500 to this amount to ensure my company gets a full refund. Thus what should have been a free (company sponsored) training initiative for me, turned out to be a very costly R7 500 involuntary donation to MANCOSA , thanks to their miscommunication

I received a response from MANCOSA stating once again that they have a non-refundable registration Policy and responded that I did receive a refund minus the registration fee. (As I already stated above) However I think they miss the point of my complaint completely. If they agreed to give a refund due to their own miscommunication, how can they still insist on keeping R7 500 as a registration fee for a service that was never provided? If after paying a deposit for a Hotel room, and no rooms is available on your arrival would the Hotel insist on keeping your deposit? When you by any item for R50 00 rand and then return it because the specs were not as advertised, does the salesman have the right to refund you only R40 00 and keep R10 000 as some transaction fee after admitting that the advertised spec were wrong?

Thanks, I realize you have a non-refundable registration policy that brings in a clean profit of R7500 for each registration no matter who is in the wrong (excellent business model). I would however expected integrity and simple logic would be more important to any respectable organization.

Thus from my experience, MANCOSA is not the type of service provider that any organization, with integrity as a core value, should keep on their approved service providers list.
