I am extremely disappointed with Malawian Airlines and the way my baggage theft case has been handled. I have been flying with Malawian Airlines for many years. During that time, I heard numerous rumors about passengers’ luggage being opened and items going missing, but I always dismissed them because I had never personally experienced anything like that. Unfortunately, I am now one of those passengers. On 22 May 2026, I traveled from Johannesburg via Blantyre to Dar es Salaam. Upon collecting my checked luggage in Dar es Salaam, I immediately noticed that the lock on my suitcase had been broken and was missing. When I opened my bag, it was clear that someone had gone through my belongings. My lotions and deodorants had been opened, and the contents of my suitcase were in complete disarray. The biggest shock was discovering that a brand-new pair of Adidas Samba sneakers had been ******. What makes this even more upsetting is that they were completely new and had never been worn. The used shoes in my luggage were left behind, but the new pair was taken. I immediately reported the matter to the Lost Property Office in Dar es Salaam, where a case was opened. I was then referred to the Malawian Airlines representative, Furaha, who advised that the matter would need to be investigated across Johannesburg, Blantyre, and Dar es Salaam. Over the following days, I repeatedly followed up, only to be told that they were still waiting for feedback. No turnaround time could be provided, despite me explaining that I had limited time in Dar es Salaam. After returning to Johannesburg on 7 June 2026, I visited the Lost Property Office handling Malawian Airlines. A staff member took a copy of my case and assured me that they would follow up. I also wanted to meet with the station manager, Rashid, regarding this matter. To date, I have received no feedback, no update, no explanation, and no resolution. What disappoints me the most is not only the theft itself but the lack of urgency, communication, and accountability shown by Malawian Airlines. My luggage was tampered with, my belongings were disturbed, and a valuable item was ******, yet weeks later I am still left without answers. This experience has completely damaged my trust in Malawian Airlines. Passengers trust airlines to transport their belongings safely. In my case, that trust was broken. I hope Malawian Airlines investigates this matter thoroughly, provides accountability, and improves baggage security so that other passengers do not have to experience what I have gone through.
