Worst online experience ever

I ordered an item online, 2 days later the order is cancelled by Makro, due to insufficient stock. I was nformed via email, after the fact, with no option to choose an alternative. In the same breath, I am told I would have to wait 7-10 business days for a refund. That is ridiculous especially since the item ordered was a birthday gift which would have arrived on he's birthday. Now I'm left with no other option but to wait? Not on. I have logged a complaint, but that will also take 5 days before I get any feedback. What a terrible experience to say the least
