Why pay repairs if is still under Warranty?

I bought a Ryobi Hedge Trimmer in the beginning of January 2015 and only started using it 1 month ago. After cutting 2 hedges the machine stopped working. I went to Makro to report the machine and they said that they going to send the machine for inspection and that it would take 7 working days. They only called me after 2 weeks and said that the machine arrived at the factory for inspection and that they will let me know what the problem on the machine was. Last week I called Makro and asked them about the machine and I was advised to call the factory myself. They said I had to pay R667.50 upfront before they could repair any damages on the machine. In fact the machine had a 2 year Warranty. But I was now only informed that the Warranty does not cover the clutch, rings, piston and gasket. That means that it is about the whole engine.
