We want our money back Makro Pietermaritzburg

I'm tired of singing the same song for weeks so I'm simply going to share the lyrics here.

We purchased a Wolf 4-stroke lawnmower from Makro Pietermaritzburg on recommendation from the salesman. He said it was the best. We took it home and waited for the ideal day to start using our lawnmower as it had been raining and it was stated that the machine should not be used on wet lawn.

On the first attempt we found the machine to be sluggish and it cuts unevenly. Called Makro to complain. They attributed it to a number of possibilities but said we could bring it in. As the closest Makro store is easy an hour away from my town and even more depending on the trucks and traffic, etc, we decided to check before taking it through to the Makro we purchased it from (ie Makro Pietermaritzburg), on a Sunday, our only free day in the week.

Before packing it for the trip, we decided to see if the problem still persisted. We waited for the ideal conditions once again before turning on the machine. It made a huge bang and refused to start.

The Makro experience was a lengthy one. Many hours of our free day for leisure was wasted, waiting for the right person, explaining, sharing the story with other staff, having the machine checked out (it wouldn't start despite the numerous attempts they made and then to get them to stop, it made another bang), doing the paperwork, etc... all of which felt like a wasted day.

After much explanation, they said they would get it repaired.

I'd like to know if this is how Makro functions. To buy a brand new lawnmower for over R5000.00... take it home.. wait for the ideal conditions to try it out... do so... and then they say they will repair it. If this was a second hand machine, I'd understand... and we wouldn't buy it.

Also this is not a cake machine that you can buy one day and try out the next day by making a dough, etc, irrespective of weather...it was purchased in February 2019 and returned in March 2019 just so you know.

The stupid idea that once it's used, they cannot refund us our money, doesn't work for us. Can someone please understand that if you don't try something out you cannot establish whether it works or not! Also that one has to wait for the ideal conditions to do so, is worth noting as we don't purchase stuff to return it.

The idea of getting a brand new lawnmower with a problem fixed... so soon after purchase doesn't make sense. Surely it was built to last... and to work well. If it was a R100 product, I'd throw it away or get it fixed but an over R5000.00 lawnmower isn't exactly small change. It's made to last a while. Our last lawnmower (a Robin) lasted 15 years without servicing it for years.. and it cut lawn evenly making our garden lawn look like that which you would see in a garden magazine.

Anyway long story short, we phoned Makro Pietermaritzburg... and then the main Makro number listed on the net...and spoke to the supervisor (not in Pietermarizburg) who very ungracefully cut my call and refused to take my call or return my call on the many attempts I made after our initial conversation. She should learn from the Pietermarizburg staff how to address customers concerns with politeness. She is after all getting paid for it.

We then phoned the number on the box and spoke to a gentleman at Wolf. He said that the machine needs to be serviced after every 5 hours of use. If we knew this, we would never have purchased the lawnmower. Our garden is huge and we can't be taking our lawnmower in every month.

I'm going to make it simple. This is nothing against the friendliness of the Makro staff in Pietermarizburg, they have heard my experience and are trying to take it to higher authority.

I'm simply saying, the machine has had a problem so soon, it's bound to have problems in the future... and we are not accepting it, irrespective of what the problem was. We want our money back. You can keep the negative energy generated from our complaining. Thank you.
