Unreasonable repair costs

Repair note *** - reposting this as I can't find the original post:

Bought Nextbook 10.1 tablet for son on 27 Jan 2015 for R2,600. Friend accidentally bumped it, screen badly cracked but STILL IN WORKING ORDER. Handed in for repairs 7 Apr 2015. Got call week or two later - their repairer charges R2,500 plus R800-odd for labour, apparantly because 'motherboard has to be replaced, therefore not economically viable and customer is better of buying a new one'. I work in IT and know this is nonsense as the tablet was still working fine - as a matter of fact a quick Internet search shows that similar screens can be bought for $15 - $25 plus $3 postage, so it shows their repairer is giving me and them false info!

Centurion customer service was good from Dunique Titus and manager, communicating this well and sympathetic. But I bought this product from Makro/Walmart as they imported it themselves - new on the market end of 2014 - and expected good support from a reputable company. Also, there is no way of buying the same product knowing they don't intend supporting it?!

Further, 2 weeks later and original not yet returned to me.
