Unacceptable!

Firstly I would like to say that I am very disappointed with Makro. I have had a bad experience with Makro in the past - about two months ago when they had a promotion to which you take a cellphone contract and thereafter get a R4500 voucher. I requested for my number to be ported and they advised they will call me to confirm, they did not so I went to the store the next day thereafter the person I spoke to mentioned that I will be contacted in 24 hours however they did not call me. I went to the store 48 hours later on the Sunday when the promotion was going to end and this time a lady there advised me that I failed the credit check. I was really upset and went online and completed a credit check on clear score as I was worried because I am never behind on my accounts as well as I am in the process of taking a bond. Upon checking clear view I see that my score is 665 which is excellent. I put this on Hello peter as I was upset that I couldn’t take up the phone and the voucher. Makro tried calling me and mentioned the same thing again that I failed the credit check and need to contact Vodacom as they were supplying the contract – This was totally unhelpful. I finally gave up as I work in a call centre as well and I knew that I will be going in circle so I gave up.

Secondly, We also visited Makro about two weeks thereafter to buy sea food, after paying for the stuff, you need a receipt to go out, the casher gave a receipt which was damaged so my partner requested for a another one as the one that was given looked like the ink was finished and the guard wouldn’t clearly see what was bought. After requesting for a new receipt they made us stand for 15 to 20 minutes by the door with the stuff in our hand waiting for a receipt, this was really bad has it looked like we stole something and was waiting for the police to come.

Thirdly, Every month I go do my shopping in Makro as I like the bulk deals and Makro being a big store I would say that the quality of products will be excellent. I visited Makro this week Sunday (03/11/2019) and bought stuff from there for about R1200. I bought a sasko wheat flakes/flour for brand ****ins and when I went home I opened it however when checking the label the product expired on the 26/10/2016. I would like to know how are they having expired things on their shelf’s? Do they not check products daily/weekly to take off stuff that is going to expire?

I also bought wheat bread on Sunday which was the 3/11/2019 however the bread was mouldy by Tuesday and when I checked the label it says bb 04/11/2019. Aren’t Makro supposed to get rid of bread or products at least 2-3 days early? As normal bread that we buy stays good for 3-4 days. This is ridiculous as bread with mould is just a bad sight to look at.

I also bought a bale of bigger nak’s, this product expires March 2020 however after opening a packet my sister mentioned its stale, opened a packet thereafter and guess what? It was stake as well.

There was promoters in the store for the Nature valley oats bar – promotion was 5 box’s for R100, I didn’t take the deal, I just took one box for R20 however after opening it the next day and reading the box, it will expire on the 19/11/2019. Why sell products if they going to expire in 15 days? What if people that bought the deal couldn’t finish the stuff by the 19/11/2019?

Upon talking to my colleagues at work about this, another lady advised that she bought mussels, a parcel meat and 3 packs Vienna which was tasting funny and was off.

To Be honest working in a call centre and word of mouth can ruin the customer base in Makro if nothing is done about this. My experience mainly as made me think twice of buying stuff from Makro and I am not going to waste petrol to go to the store to receive bad customer experience and for the stuff to give us their attitude and act as if its our fault.

After reading the above message you can see that this kind of service is unacceptable and I have kept quiet and forgot about things that happened in Makro twice. Every time I complain or post on Hello Peter nothing gets done except the fact that I receive an auto message saying that feedback will be given to the store and my complaint is then forgotten. This time I want compensation as well as my products that are off to be replaced. If nothing is done about this I will be going to the paper, twitter, facebook and hello peter will receive this feedback message and complaint as I am sure there are a 100 more customers who bought stuff thinking its fresh and nice however the stuff was off. Luckily I checked the labels or me and my family would be in hospital now due to food poisoning. I currently work and did not have time to write this review until now. I have the stuff at home with the receipt however I throw the bread away as it was disgusting.

Looking forward to your response and a suitable resolution to my complaint.

Complaint sent via email to Makro on the 9/11-2019 however no response with a resolution and they keep sending me automated messages with they opening and closing times. I want this resolved today. Contact me on ***
