Stay away from Makro Germiston

I took my mom to Makro Germiston to get a new dishwasher because they had a deal on one. We get there, and speak to an eager and friendly floor salesman who proceeds to answer all the normal questions that a prospective buyer would ask, namely is it energy efficient as well as other questions including the guarantee etc. I tell him that I saw on the website that it had 4 interest free payments over 6 weeks and I make a specific point to ask the him if I make the 1st payment including an ancillary amount for an extended warranty, when can my parents pick up the dishwasher. He proceeds to tell me and my mom that once said payment clears, her and my dad can pick it up on Monday or Tuesday. I call through on Monday and learn the payment has gone through. My parents go the next day to pick it up. The sales person who we dealt with on Sunday wasn’t there, and the people who were supposed to help were too busy watching the World Cup on the big screen in the television section. They made my parents who are in their 70’s wait for over 3 and a half hours. In the end they would not release the dishwasher as they said we had only paid the 1st instalment. At no stage whatsoever did the sales person ever say that the item was on layby and if I known that it was, we would’ve never bought it in the first place. I made complaint to head office which was useless and a lesson in futility and was told that “THIS IS NOT STORE POLICY AND BY RIGHT THEY SHOULD'VE RELEASED THE ITEM IN QUESTION” as well making numerous apologies to me.

No wonder Makro is losing money hand over foot and I will never go back again. I was given paperwork to fill out in which I gave my moms details as it was on her Makro card that we bought the item including all the information the accounts dept required and was later told it was insufficient as the name of the company who purchased it was different from my moms even though I put her name and the company on the relevant line. I was told I would wait six days for my refund and it’s now been over 2 weeks
