Stay Away, Don't Walk, Run!!!
What's another word for disappointed? Unhappy, Disheartened, Discontent? These words describe my most recent experience with Makro regarding an online purchase. I purchased a "TT 2 Walking And Jogging Pad Foldable Portable Treadmill for Home Use with Foldable Handle Bar" from Makro on 11 July 2024, before making the purchase, I did some research and contacted the supplier via their Whatsapp chat channel (not very helpful and friendly to add) none the less, I made an informed decision and decided to purchase the item. It cost me R5000, a purchase that was justified, as I spend a considerable amount of time on my laptop and would like to be more active while working. I've been using the item ever since and everything seemed fine, up until 2 weeks ago, when it wouldn't switch on. The "cable" connecting to the item needed to be "touched" in order for the item to switch on, I left it as is, as the issue was intermittent. About a week ago, I was walking on the walking pad while working, and all of a sudden, the speed increased and then decreased, I immediately pressed the "off button" on the remote and switched the item off. Luckily, I was able to control the speed. On this same day I logged a return, and Makro sent me a notification confirming that the item would be collected on Saturday 28 Sep 2024. On the Friday I was on my way out and the courier guys pitched up asking for the item. Seeing that it was only supposed to be collected on Saturday, I hadn't packaged it yet. My husband ended up packing the item in x2 plastic bags, as the box got wet and was damaged by the stormy weathers we had in July. That being said, the item was wrapped and secured and on it's way to the courier. I got a call on Tuesday from a consultant at Makro confirming that the supplier said, that nothing is wrong with the item and that they tested it, so there's nothing that they can do. This walking pad costs R10 000 I bought it on special for R5000 and paid R5000 for it, which is not pocket change, only to be told that nothing is wrong with the item and that it will be returned back to me? If the supplier tested the machine and found no fault, then that proves my point that the issue/s are intermittent, but the fact remains that the item is faulted and I as the client am being disadvantaged after paying R5000 for a walking pad. I have now also been without the use of the machine for +-1 week. The consultant from Makro said she would speak to the supplier and ask if the machine can be repaired. This doesn't sit well with me as I spent all this money on an item that doesn't work properly, only to be told that nothing is wrong with it and that Makro will "ask" the supplier if the item "can" be repaired. I don't want a repaired item or the item back as is, as this is not what I paid for, I paid for a brand new item and expected to use it without any complications.
