Sold incorrect product & basically called a ****

Very disappointed with Makro

Still waiting for a response regarding our Bennett Read Sterling cookware (set of 3 pots).

We bought the pots in December, but only started using them at the end of Jan when we moved into our cottage.

After using them & being burnt by the handles, I decided to take them back – as the box clearly states “cool-touch handles”, ie: will remain cool to the touch when cooking.

The earliest I could get to Makro was the 14th of Feb.

The pots were sent to Tevo for testing (Repair ***) & about 2 weeks later they were back at Makro & apparently nothing was wrong with them. However, I wasn’t going to drive all the way there to collect the same pots & get burnt again.

After calling the Springfield Makro store multiple times, I finally got a call back on the 22nd of March. After discussing the problem, I asked if perhaps the pots are not compatible with a gas stove. This was confirmed when they read the instructions inside the box & it said “cannot be used with excessive heat”.

When the pots were purchased, we specifically told the sales lady that we have a gas stove. I wanted to buy a different set of pots, but she said it was terrible quality & we won’t get better than the Tevo Bennett-Read Sterling cookware.

When I told Makro this, I was told that the “story” of the sales lady selling us the wrong item is very “far-fetched”. However, they would get back to me on the outcome.

I received a call again on the 4th of April to tell me that they could not do anything about it, as it is her word against ours & according to their policy, the pots should have been returned within 7 days. In my opinion, the pots are actually defective as we cannot use them, therefore we should have 3-6 months to return them. Makro did not agree with this.

After further investigation, the supplier (Makro/Tevo sales lady) shouldn’t have just not sold the wrong product in the first place, but she also should have warned us that buying the product would lead to serious injury & harm (ie: bad burns to hands), therefore making Makro liable for any damages from selling us an unsafe product.

“Consumers may return defective or unsafe goods and request a full refund”

I would even be happy with the pots just being swapped – but Makro would not allow that.

We have always supported Makro & spent a lot of money there – for starting out our new cottage, all the camping gear, etc etc. But we will never be shopping there again if this is not resolved.

When I let the lady know this (phone call on 4th April) & also the fact that we were broken into twice & had just received an insurance card with a large sum of money on, suddenly she was going to speak to her manager & see if there was anything they could do.

However, still no phone call back.

Would appreciate a response.

Thank-you in advance
