Shop refusing to repair my TV set
On the 28/07/2018 I purchased an LG TV plasma at Makro Germiston, everything was done proper the sales lady even tested the TV for me, to check if everything was working fine, I was satisfied. She then repacks the TV back to the box assisted by her colleague (white citizen) from the shop, before the lady seal the box she noticed that a plastic with remote control, adaptor and HDMI cable was left behind, the white guy then opens the TV box on the side and put in that package, they then sealed the box. He loaded the TV on the trolley and one of the Makro staff walked me out pushing the trolley for me, I then loaded in my car at the back sit, I drove home, offload it and put it the room. Monday 30th I make a booking with Multichoice to arrange for a technician to come install the dish and connect my TV. I got a call on Tuesday the 31st that someone will come to do the installation on 01/08/2018 and the technician came in the morning as per my arrangement, the time was 08h15, his name was Richard (white citizen driving with an African guy) They then started doing the installation, open the box, we then discovered that the plastic with remote control, adaptor and HDMI cable was put in front of the screen not where it was meant to be. He connected the TV and found that the screen is damaged, we checked if what happened and there was no physical impact or dent outside the box showing that it was bumped or hit by something. We thoroughly check even inside the box and found out that plastic with the remote control was put in a wrong place, it was oppressed by the box against the screen. The technician advised me to take it back to the shop and show them what caused the crack, due to time I couldn’t take it that day because I was running late for work, I decided to return it on weekend since I was busy, Friday morning 03/08/2018 I took it back to the shop because I was frustrated. I explained the situation and the manager for the department was called I told him my story, the man was so defensive and difficult, he told me that they will take the TV to the LG repair center, but he cannot promise to pay for the damage since the TV was inspected before it left the shop. I didn’t argue with him, I said I won’t mind paying for the damage provided if he can show me the footage when the TV was put back to the box, because that’s where I think the problem started, he denied giving me the footage and told me that his employees has been doing this job for the past 12 years there is no way they can do such a mistake. The TV was then booked in and they gave me a reference number ( ********** ) and phone numbers to check if how far with the process. I got an SMS on the 10/08/2018 telling me that my TV has been received by the assessment /repair agent. I then got a call that the repair center is charging R5200,00 to repair the screen and they need my approval, I told the lady that I cannot be held liable for the damage I never done since the problem started at the shop when repacking my appliance. Since then my TV is sitting at repair center and the shop told me that they cannot afford to pay the cost, after the TV was costing R5499.00. it’s going to be too much for them to pay R5200,00 I need my TV, I bought it for a reason and I want to use it, it’s unfair for me to be held liable for the shop’s negligence. Why is the manager refusing to show me the footage when the TV was repacked? This is really a BAD SERVICE!!! If the package was put placed in a right place, there would have no problem, and lately I’m the one to be blamed.
