Request for extractor pipe

I bought an AEG extractor at Makro .it was explained that it comes with a pipe. Upon opening I realized it does not have a pipe went back to the store after some. time. The manager in charge of the department told me it does not matter whether the pipe is available or not the extractor will still perform the same function. On the other hand my installer tells me a different story that I need that pipe otherwise the food smoke will not escape to the outside but will be trapped inside the ceiling. It even shows in the manual that I have to have the pipe it is part of the extractor.
