Reconditioned phones sold as new (contained personal details of previous owner)

In January I decided it was time to upgrade my cell phone. I shopped around online and found what I thought was a great deal from Makro Online. The phone arrived but ... it wasn't the shiny new phone that it pretended to be. How did I know? It still had ID photos and Gmail account details of the previous owner tucked away in its files. I double checked all the wording on the ad. No mention of the fact that the phones were (badly) reconditioned! Not only is this misrepresentation, but in terms of the POPI Act they have shared private information of a third party with me. Six weeks, dozens of emails and phone calls later I get a standard email telling me to expect a refund within 7-14 days. With no mention of interest on the sizeable cost of the phone.

There was no apology or an explanation of what how this could have happened despite my repeated requests for information. Shocking service and poor business practices Makro, and not what I'd expect from such a big and established retailer!
