Poor Service- Misleading online info- No Accountability

Extremely disappointed with Makro's online service and product accuracy.

I purchased an LG 9kg Front Load Washing Machine (F2V5FYPYP) online, and this has been one of the most frustrating purchasing experiences I've had.

Delivery was promised for a specific date, and I took the day off work to be available. The driver didn't show up, claiming my contact number was wrong. Once corrected, delivery still wasn't made the next day as promised either. When the item finally arrived two days late, the driver claimed he had actually attempted delivery on the original date and got no answer – which was simply not true, since I was home the entire day waiting. To make things worse, this story didn't even match what Makro's own customer service agent had told me, who said the item had been handed to a different driver altogether. The conflicting stories from Makro's staff made the whole experience feel dishonest.

On top of the delivery issues, the machine itself was advertised with a 1400 rpm spin speed, which was a major factor in my decision to buy this specific model. After unboxing it, I discovered it only has a 1200 rpm spin speed – a direct mismatch between what was advertised and what was delivered.

I reached out to Makro to raise these issues and request appropriate compensation or resolution, and while they acknowledged the problems, it has been a slow and frustrating process to get any real resolution.

Between the failed deliveries, the conflicting information from staff, and false advertising on the product specs, I cannot recommend shopping with Makro for big-ticket items. Buyer beware – check your specs carefully and don't expect much accountability if things go wrong.

Thank you for this response.

I have received a response from your agent, which is quoted below
" Good day Idress, I hope you are well. Please note that we received your query about a unit adveristed incorrectly speed 1400 however you received a 1200. Please assist advise provide a pictures from the unit that the unit is a 1200. Please note that we will then communicate with our buyer to verify the information. Regards"

This matter has been open since 24 August 2026, when the item was delivered. Makro's team requested photographic proof of the incorrect spin speed, which I provided promptly on request. Since then, I have heard nothing further – no update, no timeline, no resolution.

What's most frustrating is the pattern I've noticed: as soon as this issue is raised publicly, it suddenly gets attention and a response. The moment it moves back to private email correspondence, I get ignored entirely. This is not how a company should treat a paying customer, especially one who has done everything asked of them – provided all requested documentation, followed up multiple times, and simply asked for a fair resolution.

I require Makro to resolve this matter by choosing one of the following two options:

1. A full refund for the washing machine; or
2. Replacement of the unit with the correct model offering the advertised 1400 rpm spin speed.

Please confirm which of these two options Makro will be proceeding with, along with the process and timeframe for doing so.

I trust this will be actioned without further delay, given how long this matter has already remained unresolved.

Regards,
Idrees Sayed

Another update on this ongoing matter. I followed up with Makro again yesterday, requesting feedback on the resolution of my complaint (LG 9 kg Front Load Washing Machine, incorrect spin speed advertised, plus the earlier delivery issues). Once again, zero response.

At this point it's hard not to notice the pattern: this issue only seems to get any attention when it's raised here, publicly. The moment it moves to private email, I'm met with silence, despite having provided every piece of documentation requested of me promptly days ago.

I shouldn't have to keep chasing a retailer for basic feedback on a paid order. I've asked for either a full refund or a replacement with the correct 1400rpm model as advertised, and I'm still waiting on any confirmation either way.

Will continue to update this review until Makro actually resolves this.

Since the matter was first raised with Makro on 24 August 2026, it has taken 17 business days and is still totally unresolved.

Since my last update, Makro responded by email offering me a compensation voucher towards a future purchase as a resolution to my complaint (LG 9 kg Front Load Washing Machine, advertised with 1400 rpm spin speed, delivered with 1200 rpm only). I flatly refused this. This is not a case for a goodwill voucher – it is a case of goods sold with incorrect advertised specifications, and Makro needs to be held accountable for that. I rep**** in writing, setting out my rights in terms of both the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (the 7-day cooling-off period, which I was denied because of Makro's own delays) and Section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act (which entitles me to a repair, replacement or full refund for goods not fit for purpose). I told them I want a full refund or the correct 1400 rpm unit delivered with no charge whatsoever – nothing less.

It’s now been 2 business days since I sent that response, and I have not heard anything. This fits a clear pattern of Makro only responding when this issue is raised publicly and going silent as soon as it goes back to private correspondence. To be honest, I don’t matter to the Makro aftersales team as a client, but if a review is posted here, the social media team is all over it. It says a lot when a company seems more concerned about protecting its online reputation than actually fixing a complaint from a customer who is paying.

I will keep updating this review until Makro comes up with a real solution and not just empty apologies and stalling tactics.
