Poor Service and Still No Response regarding damaged Fridge
My Girlfriend and I went to Makro Centurion on the 10th of July around 5pm to purchase a Defy Bar fridge at a price of R1899 that we had seen online. When we got to the fridge section, the particular fridge we wished to purchase did not have a price on display, so we looked for a sales person and asked him to please get us the price of the bar fridge, as we had saw it on Makro online and wished to purchase. They guy took about 10 minutes to find us the price while we waited in the fridge section. We had also decided to get a microwave that day, which was available on shelf. The sales man eventually came back to tell us the price, we asked him if there is stock available, he had to go back to check. Eventually, we paid for the microwave and the fridge and went to the pickup bay to collect the fridge. When we arrived, there was 1 customer before us, and the warehouse guy was helping them to remove the packaging of their product and load it into the car. Once he was done he went to get our bar fridge from the stock warehouse. While we waited we created space in our boot and even put the back seats down to ensure we had enough space. The warehouse guy came back with the 2 fridges, he grabbed one box with both hands, the box was positioned on its side and he threw it into the car boot. With this being the first time, we have picked up an item from the dispatch area at Makro, we didn’t think too much of it as we thought this guy knows what he was doing? Quite excited we travelled home to finally get groceries to put into our new fridge. We got home and carefully took the fridge out the car and took it into our home. Opened the box and we see the fridge door is dented as well the back of the fridge along with a large crack at the back. The only protective polystyrene was on the top of the fridge and the bottom of the fridge, accompanied by pieces of flat cardboard in between each side and the outer box. We were extremely disappointed and it was too late to go back it was way after 6pm so we left it where it stood and didn't even put it on. We decided to call Makro the next day to explain and they had said to bring the fridge back. So, after work that same day ****h of July) we took the packaging with the fridge back to Makro. When we arrived, we spoke with the salesman that sold us the fridge, we told him this is how the fridge was when we opened the box. The sales man called the guy that gave us the fridge at the pickup area to confirm if the box was like that when he gave it to us (I was extremely confused at this request, I felt like this sales guy is indirectly saying that we damaged the fridge, did he expect the warehouse guy to remember every box he sold yesterday???), The warehouse guy came in telling the sales guy that the box wasn’t like that and implying that we had damaged the fridge and brought it back. I told the sales guy, to go look at the camera footage from outside his warehouse and tell me if the way in which the product was thrown into our car was general procedure? The guy gave me a story about “we don’t have access to this – what a load of ****!!! Then we had asked to speak to a manager, John came to assist us. – Apparently, he is Head of General merchandise, he told us about processes that needed to be followed and we need to book the fridge in for assessment. When we asked to speak to someone who could make a decision about this fridge, because we had groceries at home and we needed a fridge. The Store manager had left at 4.30pm that day, and they called to find out where the other manager is and first told us they cannot find him, and after a while of arguing how come they can’t find this manager who was supposed to be there at the time. John says without any phone call to anyone – He has left on account of an emergency??? Really? John was just telling us he couldn’t find him and all of a sudden, he left, leaving no manager at the store? Is that how Makro operates? WOW, we were beyond upset! John pleaded with us to give him one day to sort it out. We agreed to give him one day, the 12th of July has passed. Guess what it’s now the 16th of July and we still don’t have a fridge, wasted money on groceries, and still awaiting feedback. Furthermore I never received a call from Makro regarding a status update. I had to call numerously to get an update using a lot of my airtime. Only once did the Defy representative call me and I was told he would call me back regarding getting the inspector to come in on Friday but I never got a call back. Apparently there is only one inspector for Defy in the region and he only comes to the Centurion Store on a Monday. So yesterday was Monday the 16th of July 2018 and still no call from Defy as I was told by John the Manager at Makro that Defy would call me. Upon Discussion with John I stressed my need for a fridge as I just moved to Centurion. I also informed him that I am not the first person with this complaint and he stated “That was a different issue the Lady who returned that fridge only had a dent from one side because it slid and hit the container and yours had a double hit, I don’t know what happened, you don’t know what happened and the inspector does not know”. This again the manager implying that we damaged the fridge. I don’t think this is how customers should be treated. Please assist me.
