Poor quality Bycles and poor service

I purchased two bicycles for my sons (ages 3 and 9) from Makro Cornubia Mall on 11 February 2024. Unfortunately, the quality of the bicycles has been very disappointing. The wheel rims, which are made from poor-quality plastic, only lasted about two months. My children only used the bicycles on weekends, so the wear and tear should not have been this bad.

I contacted Makro in May to report the issue, explaining that I work in Johannesburg and would only be able to return to Durban in June. I was assured that I could bring the bicycles in for assistance when I was back. On 23 June, I visited the store, and the bicycles were booked in for inspection.

Since then, I have been going back and forth with the store, trying to get this issue resolved. I’ve spoken to multiple managers, and each time I’m told that someone will get back to me, but nothing happens. It is now October, and I’m still waiting for a solution.

Makro’s service has really deteriorated, and the quality of their products seems to have dropped. I expected better, especially given their reputation, but this experience has been frustrating and disappointing.

Response I got “Good day Mr Ndlovu
My sincere apologies about your recent experience with Makro. I assure you that we take every step to ensure that our customers are treated fairly and that our practices align with our code of ethics and values.
After taking the matter up with senior management and after reviewing the statement from the technician, we unfortunately cannot repair or exchange the bikes due to wear and tear.

Kind Regards
Naasif Dastagir”

Please do your selves a favour and be cautious before buying bicycles at Mikro Fellow customers
