Omission of Important Information, Poor Product Knowledge,

The Leapfrog Epic was purchased on the 8th of May 2016 at Makro Meadowdale. The consultant dealing with the Leapfrog sales reassured us that even though the App Centre Download Cards are out of stock it will become available again in store. Sold out would mean that it is a popular item and will be restocked regularly. We agreed to the purchase and returned to the store on numerous occasions for the cards. On the 10th of September 2017 we visited the store again and spoke to Mandla for cards and were informed that they were battling to acquire stock for months. It has gone from sold out to battling for stock? Mandla said he would get back to us on Monday. During this conversation we asked for a refund on the unit if the cards would not become available. Mandla assured us that there would not be a problem for refund. On the Tuesday we were suddenly informed that a refund will not be possible. On the Wednesday we spoke to the Manager Ross and were informed that there was no demand for the cards and it will not be stocked. The store had ample opportunity to inform us of this issue since the date of purchase on our frequent visits but neglected to do so. We asked for a refund and the Manager Ross within one phone call the warranty went from 6 month to 1 year and we were told that they are invoking the Consumers Protection Act. When I pointed out that the Act existed to protect the CONSUMER the Manager suddenly could arrange with the store buyer to have two cards sent to Makro. We collected the cards on the 16th of September 2017 and attempted to use the cards in order to purchase applications for the Leappad. Two games were purchased but the purchases did not reflect or download. Leapfrog Support was contacted and we were informed that because we had gone out of warranty and because the unit's software is so outdated due to the fact that we could not acquire the download cards, the unit will have to be collected and repaired at additional cost, if it can be repaired at all. We would have become aware of any faults with the unit if we had not been constantly stalled with acquiring download cards through constantly being given the wrong information regarding availability, the unit's software would also not have become outdated if we could acquire the cards timeously. The store should have informed us months ago that the cards could be acquired online and they should have directed us to Leapfrog Support right from the beginning. Leapfrog Support informed us that this was unacceptable from Makro's side neglecting to give us all the support information and neglecting to stock cards. In total we have spent in excess of R3000.00 already on trying to get this device working. R2000.00 to purchase the device, countless visits to the store, and calls to acquire the download cards, and finally the R400.00 for the download cards and afterwards more calls to try and sort out the problem.

In essence I would like to have the unit replaced with a working unit and new warranty as well as two new download cards or I would like a refund voucher in order to get my child an item that he can actually use and enjoy.
