No, I did not want a refund!
So I ordered myself a pair of dumbbells Online which was a from mom, to mom gift right after receiving my bonus in December. As I never get the chance to do something for myself I was quite excited hoping to add a bit of exercises to my usual daily routine. I placed the order late December and specified that it only needed to be delivered on the 8th of January to my work address as I was visiting family and not quite sure what my schedule would be like. I received a call late December and explained to the courier that I only wanted the order delivered on the 8th of January, as per my instructions. He them said that he will take it back to the depot and deliver as per instructions.
On the 6th of January I received an SMS from my bank confirming that an amount has been deposited into my account. As I was on holiday I don't check my emails often and I saw that I received email confirmation a day before that the order has been cancelled, as requested. I contacted the care center early on the 6th. After explaining to the agent that I did not want the order cancelled and refunded, she said that she will escalate it to the correct department which will contact me within 72 hours. Being a weekend I emailed the consultant on Wednesday and I gave it the entire next week before phoning the care centre on Friday, 12 January. I explained to the agent that the previous agent mentioned that the department she escalated the query to would be able to retract the amount and it would go off on my bank account again. Which seemed unlikely but that's what I was told. The agent kept asking me to re-order, which meant paying an additional delivery fee or fetching the order in Riversands, which I was unwilling to do. If the order could be dispatched to Centurion, I'd be more than happy to collect as this particular branch did not have stock. This was not my error and I felt like I should not be made to run around after an simple instruction was not taken note of. I was again promised that it would be escalated to the elusive "correct department", this time with a 48 hour response time. I said to the agent if I have not received communication by yesterday (Tuesday) I was going to write a report on HelloPeter. He again reiterated that communication will take place within 72 hours. This might not seem like much to some people, but this was my treat to myself. The money was refunded and spent on back to school which means that I wasn't able to get my mom treat. That's what we moms do. We keep buying more stationary and snacks for the kids and never take ourselves into account. That's why I made a point to do something for myself the moment that all my financial commitments were met. Thanks for that. Your communication and customer care is really not up to standard. Promises are made, promises are broken and a lot of explanation is needed to try and have the consultant understand what I require. I've been refunded, what was the issue?? The issue is that I never wanted to cancel and I really wanted to come to work in the New Year and get my gift box on my desk. I was really looking forward to it. I'll spend another year waiting for a bonus to buy R200 dumbbells. By the way, I've requested a collection of the second part of the order. The product is defective. I requested replacement not refund, got it?!
