no credit received

bought an item online with a credit card. item was defective and returned it the same day. awaiting a credit for three weeks and they say it has been passed and refunded but no funds received. now they want my bank confirmation letter to prove its me but they should just pay into the same card that the transaction was made from how difficult is that. cant they check their statement to see that no funds were paid to me? really disappointed
