NEVER Buy appliances from Makro - NEVER

NEVER, and I mean NEVER buy any appliances from Makro. I have seen other reviews that indicate that Makro does not comply with the requirements of the Consumer Protection Act, Act 68 of 2008, in relation to the warranty.

I have now TWICE had the case where I had appliance fail and in neither of these cases were the products REPLACED as specified by the act. In the first case I had to wait for weeks for repairs to be conducted, but at least I did not have to pay anything.

In the second case, I had a SAMSUNG micro-wave oven (a second review will also follow...) , that first started to act strange after a power failure. When the power was restored, (which is the same as switching it off and on normally), the control unit then started to act up after that, but the oven still functioned for a day. The next day it made the noise as if working, but it did not heat up anything.

Again, there was no indication of attempting to replace a basically new unit. The microwave was sent for assessment. Five weeks later, I received a quotation for repairs, exceeding the price of a new micro-wave oven. In this assessment, it was alleged that there were ****roaches in the unit, that magically damaged the control unit of the oven and then went on to destroy the magnetron.

It is however interesting to note that I started using an old (20+ years) microwave oven in the meantime, in this same place and with zero problems and no ****roaches.

During this whole process, I was never called or informed of any progress in any case. No one discussed any aspects related to the failure. And it is also quite obvious and evident that there is no way in which the product was either misused, incorrectly used or abused (no physical damage).

I have made peace with the fact that I will have to buy a new unit (at a better price) to replace the failed unit. I have also made peace with the fact that I will save an immense amount of time by doing that and not relying on any response from Makro, which will waste more time.

This review is merely to warn others to stay away from Makro COMPLETELY, when you purchase appliances. It is better to buy from a dealer that gives a consumer decent service and a supplier that communicates. Just stay away from them. They do not give the service any customer deserves.
