Misleading Bulk Pricing and Discount Presentation on Makro Website
Here is a strong, professional Hellopeter complaint you can use:
Subject: Misleading Bulk Pricing and Discount Presentation on Makro Website
I would like to formally raise a complaint regarding what appears to be misleading pricing on Makro’s website.
I was viewing the same Domestos Unstoppable Extended Power Lavender Blast 750 ml product, and found three different pricing options that create a highly misleading impression for consumers.
The single 750 ml bottle is listed at R34.99. Makro also advertises a promotion where customers can buy any 3 for R82.00, which works out to approximately R27.33 per bottle.
However, the 2 pack is listed at R123.00, which works out to R61.50 per bottle. This is significantly more expensive than buying two single bottles, which would only cost R69.98 in total.
The 20 pack is listed at R678.99, which works out to approximately R33.95 per bottle. While this appears slightly cheaper than the single bottle price, it is still far more expensive than the advertised 3 for R82 promotion. A customer could buy 18 bottles through the promotion for R492.00, add two single bottles at R69.98, and pay a total of R561.98 for 20 bottles. That is R117.01 cheaper than buying the 20 pack.
This is extremely concerning because most consumers naturally assume that buying in bulk or buying a marked down multi pack provides better value. In this case, the bulk and multi pack pricing appears to create the opposite outcome.
I believe this type of pricing structure is misleading and unfair to consumers, especially where bulk options are presented in a way that suggests value or savings. Many customers may not calculate the per unit price and could easily be led into paying more than necessary.
I request that Makro urgently reviews this pricing, corrects the misleading presentation, and provides a clear explanation as to why the same product is priced in a way that disadvantages customers who choose the supposed bulk option.
This kind of pricing practice undermines consumer trust and gives the impression that Makro is taking advantage of customers who may not realise they are paying more by selecting the larger pack.
