Makro’s Negligence and Deception – Pensioners’ Money ****** - Elderly Customers Left in Despair

Makro's latest slogan, "Someone's in a Makro Mood," couldn't be more ironic. My elderly parents are certainly in a mood—a mood of frustration, disappointment, and betrayal by a company that claims to care for pensioners.

My parents, who are loyal Makro customers, bought a Toshiba dishwasher in April last year, complete with a 5-year warranty and an extended warranty. On the 20th of May, when it stopped working, my mother, who suffers from arthritis, contacted Makro’s call center and was given reference number *** by Karabo. He assured her that someone would call within 72 hours, but no one did. After waiting, she called again and spoke with Ratsipile, who promised to expedite the matter. A technician finally came on the 29th of May and diagnosed that the pump needed replacement.

Despite Makro's pensioner discounts and incentives encouraging elderly customers to spend their limited pension funds at their stores, their service is shockingly poor when it comes to after-sales support. By the 31st of May, after still not hearing back, my mother called again and spoke with Onafree, who refused to provide the technician’s details or the company handling the repair. My mother has now been without a working dishwasher for over two weeks, struggling with her arthritis to wash dishes manually.

Adding to the frustration, my parents visited Makro in person and were directed to the refund department. There, a lady contacted the repair company and promised to inform my mother when the technician would come to fit the pump. If my mother does not receive a call by tomorrow, she plans to follow up on Friday. This ongoing saga reflects the gross inadequacy and indifference of Makro's customer service.

This is not just incompetence; it feels like theft. The dishwasher is just over a year old, and Makro happily took money for extended warranties, yet fails to deliver on their promises, leaving elderly customers without essential appliances and refusing refunds or proper service. This disgraceful treatment of our vulnerable seniors must stop.

Makro, where is your empathy? Where is your commitment to customer care? How can you justify taking pensioners’ hard-earned money and leaving them to suffer?

We demand immediate refund to resolve this issue and a apology for the undue stress and inconvenience caused. Makro must honor its warranties and truly support the pensioners who trust them.
