Makro woodmead - Selling defective items especially the ones on promotion

I bought a lawmwomer machine December, used it once and then the handle of the grass box broke at first time use from the box. Returned it to Makro Woodmead and now they don't want to change it saying that it's not covered by warranty. I do accept that warranty doesn't cover it, but surely if it broke when only used for the 1st time, that clearly means the item was defective.

The item was returned after 15 days from initial purchase and no response received to date.
