Makro & Seller Sastro: False Advertising, Cancelled Orders & No Accountability

I am beyond frustrated with Makro Online and how they manage third-party sellers. I recently ordered a SMTE Queen Polyester Duvet Cover for R500 from a seller listed as Bunmilicious. The order went through, only to be cancelled due to “no stock.”

Strangely, within hours, the same product was relisted on Makro's platform — now being sold by a different seller called Sastro, and suddenly the price jumped to R734!

This reeks of false advertising, ********* business practices, and a serious lack of transparency. How do I know Bunmilicious and Sastro aren’t the same seller simply trying to avoid honouring the lower price? There is no way for customers to confirm because Makro refuses to disclose contact information for sellers — yet sellers receive all our personal delivery details. How is that fair or legal?

To make it worse:

Your system accepted my payment even though there was no stock or my location was not serviced.

I’ve now had two separate orders cancelled from different sellers in a short space of time. This points to a much deeper issue with your seller verification and order fulfilment processes.

I spoke to a helpful Makro agent, but even they couldn’t give me any information about the seller or escalate the issue properly.

I feel I am being deceived, and Makro is complicit by allowing this to happen. If a product is listed on your platform — no matter which seller name is used — and I purchase it at the advertised price, you should honour that.

The fact that the product appears again at a higher price with a different seller name is highly suspicious and feels like deliberate manipulation to avoid fulfilling orders at a discounted rate. Under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), this is misleading conduct and must be addressed.

Makro, I demand:

That the duvet cover be honoured at the R500 price I paid,

A clear explanation of how your seller system works and why names can suddenly change,

And what steps you're taking to protect consumers from deceptive price practices.

I will escalate this to the National Consumer Commission if I do not receive a fair response within 5 working days.

This kind of platform behaviour erodes trust. I expected better from a name like Makro.
