Makro' s goods returns policy to be compared to the CPA guidelines
I went to Makro Cape Gate to have a cell phone battery bank exchanged for a replacement as it did not want to charge itself. They told me they have to send it away to have the product assessed by the manufacturer. Makro's policy is clearly displayed on a TV monitor in the returns office and on their website - they state that the product must firstly be assessed by the manufacturer so that they can determine whether it should be repaired, replaced or refunded. So this assessment period takes 14 days once you've handed the returned product to them. This is legally not correct. The CPA clearly states that if a product is returned within 6 months, because it's faulty, then it's the consumers choice, and not the supplier's, to have the product either repaired, replaced or refunded. So this 14 day period becomes irrelevant if it's my choice to decide how I want to be compensated. I also explained to the manager who they called, that Ive been a loyal Makro customer for many years, I need the battery bank because it's critical to my work as my cell phone needs to be charged constantly and I'm a sales manager that gets many phone calls a day, but the manager flatly threw the 14-day policy back in my face and refused to make any compromises. As a sales manager this was as far as I'm concerned extremely bad customer service and a very distasteful experience.
Thank you for your feedback.
