Makro disappointed
Sunday (6-3-2023) I purchased a Ryobi Compressor with 5 piece kit from Makro in Springfield Park Durban, had a job to complete and the compressor was critical to effect the completion. The box seemed a slightly damaged which I assumed was just due to handling. I arrived home and started the assembling process only to find that the wheels were missing. My wife was kind enough to contact Makro and all I had to do was collect the wheels because I did not have a vehicle available only my motorcycle. I could therefore not take the complete unit as a return. I was told to go to Customer service and I will be referred to the manager. Luckily I managed to get a vehicle and decided to return the complete unit and swop it.
Upon my arrival at Customer service I was informed that I had to go to the Returns department. At the Returns department I was informed that they tried contacting the relevant manager with which my wife had the discussion but they could not trace her. Instead they gave me the wheels only as previously agreed which I accepted and then returned home with the unit. I then continued the assembly only to find that the feet, the connecter and breather pipes were also not included. At this stage I was completely disheartened and I started inspecting the unit more closely. The fact that I found the plastic packaging to be compromised at the initial opening also started the alarm bells. Most of the equipment seemed unused and not damaged but the actual airgun for inflating motor vehicle wheels had chemical marks on it, indicatting that some attempt to clean the device might have been made.
After protracted telephone calls I was informed that they will only collect the unit Monday morning then take it back to assess and only then will I be advised whether the unit will be replaced. I was also told that they have assessed the CCTV footage and can confirm that the unit is new. I find this fascinating, how does one assess CCTV footage of a few weeks, days or even hours within the short period of time between the two phones calls and with all the cameras in Makro how do you "assess" that the unit is new. Is not only about the possible "used" nature of the item but also the fact that it is incomplete. I attach photos as proof. I paid R2400 for a product which is utterly unusable and I now need to wait until they and their supplier come to some sort of decision.
Utterly unacceptable Makro!
