MAKRO + DEFY = Misery
I bought a Defy 195l freezer end of November last year, and after plugging in (a day later) it sounded broken as I could hear the compressor making a noise that the same model next to it does not make. It also stayed on constantly and heated up the room in which its stands. I immediately let Makro know (within 14 days) and they asked for some details sn, invoice no. and sales person etc.. I sent that , and then ; nothing. After a few calls and mails they sent out for a 3rd party repair person, which I first objected to as my "new" fridge should not require repairs just replacement. The technician visited early this Jan year, re-gassed??? and added foam insulation around a pipe inside the freezer to stop the noise. The fridge is still noisy and still stays on indefinitely. He however established that it was broken, he mentioned possible atmosphere ingress, after another few calls, they subsequently informed me that Defy would issue a credit note to the Centurion Makro. I then waited another few weeks, and made several calls to the Makro help line in which I was informed that the branch is waiting on Defy to deliver the credit note to them, they also noted it was strange that the freezer was not exchanged immediately , as I did report it broken within the allowed window for a direct exchange. After another call to Makro today I was informed that a direct exchange will take place the 11th of Feb 2024 (Sunday) ?! Of which which nobody informed me as of yet, and that DEFY will be doing the exchange. I pointed out that I did not purchase the freezer from DEFY but Makro. I feel powerless in this situation as Makro seems to just pass this hot potato around.
