Makro Centurion breaking the law and discriminating blacks
I bought a Mellerware 1,7 L Glass Kettle - Black. from Makro, Centurion Branch on 21 December 2018 for R300 and on 10 January 2019 I tried using it did not work, no wonder why they were selling it on special price. On 11 January 2019 I took it back to the store and requested for a refund and I was advised they only do refunds within 14 days only notwithstanding that the Consumer Protection Act, 68 of 2008 provides for three options, full refund, replacement and repair. The manager insisted that it be taken for assessment and repaired and will be contacted after 3 to 6 weeks. Why is Makro having ******** policies despite the fact that I insisted on redress of full refund just like how they were obliging to other whites in the shop but only an option of repair is being fostered on me just because I am black. I insisted on the refund option as per the CPA they refused. They have a full refund policy within 14 days and yet the repair mechanism takes up to 6 weeks in the meantime I must not have a kettle. Why should an option be fostered on one yet the law stipulates what is available for the consumer? How come whites who arrive at the retailer requesting a refund they are immediately given without question and as a lack am told I must have a repaired kettle sold as new? on insisting on my rights their stuff is clueless of what the law provides for and insist on the word of the manager. I am so aggrieved and how I have been treated by Makro, Centurion, South Africa.
