Makro Cancelled My Paid Order & Claims “Pricing Error” — Completely Unacceptable & ********

I am posting this follow-up because Makro’s response to my complaint has made the situation even worse.

On 1 December 2025, I purchased a Digimark 195L Single Door Fridge during Makro’s Black Friday promotion for R3,596.00. The order was confirmed, payment was processed, and delivery was scheduled for 6 December 2025.

Instead of receiving my fridge, Makro cancelled my order without notifying me and processed a refund that I did NOT authorise.

When I queried this, I was told by support that the third-party supplier “did not release the item” — yet the exact same fridge is still available on Makro’s website, just at a higher price (R5,000).

Yesterday, Makro responded by claiming that my order was cancelled due to a “pricing error or change in price” and tried to justify it using their Terms & Conditions.

This explanation is completely unacceptable for several reasons:

1. The Consumer Protection Act (CPA) overrides Makro’s Terms & Conditions.

A retailer cannot use internal T&Cs to cancel a completed transaction after accepting payment, confirming the order, and scheduling delivery.

2. This was not a “pricing error”.

It was a Black Friday promotion — not a typo. Makro only cancelled the order after realising they could resell the item at a higher price.

3. The item is STILL in stock, proving the cancellation was not due to availability.

The fridge is listed at a much higher price, which is a clear sign of bait marketing and misleading advertising, both violations of the CPA.

4. Makro processed a refund without my consent.

This is ********. A customer must be contacted before any cancellation or refund.

5. The transaction was complete and legally binding.

Makro: • Took payment • Confirmed the order • Scheduled delivery • Attempted collection from supplier

That means the sale was concluded — Makro is legally required to honour the price.

Makro, this behaviour is ********* and reflects a pattern of cancelling confirmed deals to resell items at higher prices.

I am requesting again that Makro: Honours the original purchase price and provides the fridge I paid for.

If this is not resolved, I will escalate to: • The National Consumer Commission • The Consumer Goods & Services Ombud • Media outlets

Consumers deserve better than misleading promotions and ******** cancellations.
