Makro Cancelled My Confirmed Order Due to "Pricing Error" – Unfair Treatment
I am writing to formally express my concern and disappointment regarding the recent cancellation of my order — Order Number: OD*** — placed on 1 August 2025 for the Hisense 10 kg Washer Dryer Combo (WD3Q1043BT - Grey).
At the time of purchase, the item was clearly listed on your website at a special discounted price of R3,219.00, which I accepted in good faith and completed the order accordingly. The order was confirmed and acknowledged via the Makro system, with the full amount reflected and payment accepted.
I have since been informed that my order was cancelled due to a claimed pricing error. Later this afternoon, I received a call from a staff member at the Makro Bloemfontein branch. Unfortunately, instead of assisting with a resolution, the employee responded in a rude and dismissive manner, stating that the error was due to the website team and that I should simply “accept the apology.” The call was abruptly ended when the employee hung up on me, without providing any constructive assistance or escalation path.
This experience has only added to my frustration and concern. Not only was my confirmed order cancelled under questionable circumstances, but I was also treated disrespectfully.
As a customer who made a good-faith purchase based on information provided by the Makro platform, I feel that I have not been treated fairly. I request that Makro either honours the confirmed transaction or offers a reasonable resolution. The current approach not only reflects poorly on customer service but may also fall short of obligations under the Consumer Protection Act.
- Honour the original transaction at the advertised and confirmed price; or
- Propose an alternative resolution that reflects goodwill and fair practice.

The Consumer Protection Act (CPA), specifically Section 23(3), makes it clear that a supplier is bound by the displayed price unless it was an obvious and unmistakable error.
Makro ought to review this matter to determine whether the pricing was indeed an error and whether their actions aligned with both company policy and consumer protection laws.
Given the circumstances and the fact that the item was confirmed at the time of purchase, I believe a swift resolution is both fair and reasonable.

Cancelling a confirmed order without transparent evidence of an “obvious error” is unacceptable and potentially ******** under Section 23(3) of the CPA. The handling of this case, including the dismissive behaviour from your Bloemfontein team, further undermines trust.
