Makro brakpan is unsafe
Hi I went to makro brakpan on the 26th of November 2023 while doing shopping I had a look at the office chairs on the shelf,I turned around and there is a pole which they bolted down on the floor for the forklifts not to bump against the wood pillar and bumped my knee at the sharp edge at the top of the pole I had to get the wound cleaned up as it was bleeding and I had to stop the bleeding and get it cleaned up.the staff took me to the back of the stores and brought a first aid box,no first aider attended the incident and I had to clean the wound myself, upon opening the first aid box the staff had to run around to get me plasters and scissors which wasn't in the first aid box.i logged a complained with the safety officer and asked them to replace or secure the sharp edge on the pole.the store owner wasn't in the store for me to speak to nor was there a manager introduced whom I could speak to.
On the 19th of January 2024 we went shopping at the same store again and I found the pole still with sharp edges I then asked to see the safety officer. I've asked her why they haven't done anything with the pole with sharp edges and she rep**** they can't remove it. I then asked her why didn't they put a piece of rubber over the sharp edge or try and secure it or replace it with another one. She just looked at me stunned.no answer.
I asked to see they're first aid box due to the fact last year with the incident I told them please to make sure the first aid box needs attention.as I am a trained first aider and safety officer at our company.upon opening the box I found used swabs and gloves in the box from a previous injury, when I asked the safety officer what is the contaminated medical swabs etc doing in the box it's against the law to have contamination in your first aid box,she rep**** on the 10th of January she did report it to management and brought it under the first aiders attention that it is was not allowed, there was a incident again on the 16th of January 2024 and contaminated glices and swabs was left again in the first aid box. I said to her it is unacceptable and asked to see the owner she rep**** the owner has left early,I then asked to see the person in charge of the stores at the moment and she couldn't answer me she then called the risk manager of the stores when I explained to him about the first aid box he didn't looked to interested to listen to me and didn't answer all my questions.he just rep**** they will look in to it. I've asked the safety officer please ask the owner to get in contact with me as the owner of the store wasn't there twice when incidents happened. The owner still didn't get back to me.
Upon looking around just in the shelf where we where standing I saw so many other safety issues and showed it out to the safety officer and risk manager there are triping hazards by the fire hydrant there where goods all around the hydrant if there is a fire they won't be able to get to it safely themselves. The back to school shelf is about to fall over, what if a 5 year old child climbs up the shelf when the parent is busy and the shelf falls on top of the child? There are more poles bolted down where we where standing with bolts that are sticking out where you can bump you toe.sharp metal pieces sticking out that can cut your leg. When I pointed this out to the risk manager he just rep**** they will look in to it.
Surely they lie, cause if the store owner did worry about customer safety they would've made a plan with the pole last year already when the incident happened.
2 weeks ago my wife and daughter went to makro brakpan on that day it was raining the whole store was full of buckets catching up water that came through the roof they had to step around the buckets which is a major concern to customer safety, how do we know whether the roof will collapse while shopping if it is raining?
Please if anybody can help me with a lawer that are reading this review.my contact details are *** I've got pictures of everything.
I've contacted Makro head office today on this no zero one one seven nine seven quatro zero, what a battle to speak to someone, got transfered to the wrong person numerous times from call centre to national call centre and ended up again at head office the person I spoke to at head office also said to me I've been transfered to the wrong department and he'll be honest to me he doesn't know whom I need to speak to regarding my incident he then took down my number and gave me an email address for the health and safety department.
I don't think the staff from head office nor the stores got the right training what to do in an instance like this. for a mass mart store this is unacceptable and can not carry on as this is a public safety concern.
