Makro and Trimtech, what a disaster

I purchased a Trimtech 900 watt edge trimmer from Makro Pietermaritzberg , supposedly on special at Makro in October last year for R835,00 . As the rains were late the first time I tried to use it was November and it did not turn on. I had to take it back to Makro in November and after waiting 3 weeks for it I collected it and after testing it, took it home. After less than half an hour it packed up again and I took it back to Makro. They totally refused to refund my money and eventually after some argument I was put through to the factory in Durban. They advised that I had pulled the cable out of the switch and that they refused to refund Makro ( and me) my money. I had to wait another 3 weeks for the mower. This time it actually lasted about 2 hours before it broke down. I then took it back to Makro again today and demanded to speak to the manager. I demanded a refund and was quite happy with a Makro credit as I shop at Makro quite often. After quite an argument I had no option but to leave it with Makro again, this time the with the promise of the manager that he would ask Trimtech for a refund in order that Makro can credit me. This particular Trimtech edge edge trimmer is made exclusively for Makro and is still on sale despite the number of complaints on HelloPeter.

Although extremely disappointed with Trimtech who supposedly manufacture these at their factory in Durban ( probably from all Chinese parts) I am more disappointed with Makro especially with regards their very poor customer support. I live approx 80 kms from Makro and my fuel to get to Makro probably has cost me half of what the edge trimmer cost. In addition I only have a gardener once a week and each time he tries to use the edge trimmer it either does not work or works for a few hours. I have a mower to mow the lawn and only use the trimmer to trim the lawn edges. I would say in over 3 months the edge trimmer has been used for less than 3 hours. However not one word of apology from Makro . I will never purchase any item from Makro again. However this also does not seem to worry them, obviously they would rather spend a fortune on advertising rather than support their loyal customers and do not recognize the importance of sites like HelloPeter.

Also interesting to note how many complaints there are about Trimtech on HelloPeter. I always try to buy local but do not expect *******.
