Makro and Ryobi - Terrible Support and *****
I purchase a Ryobi Brush cutter from Makro Springfield in January 2019. During the first use, all went well. On the second use (after about a month), it switched off, after about 20mins, and refused to start. I then took the machine back to Makro the same day, as it was under ‘Warranty’. I received a call about 3 weeks later and was told it would cost R621.04 to repair (replace carb, plug. Service piston, cylinder, ****ler exh) and the cause was ‘incorrect mix’. I said I would accept the quote BUT I need the technician that did the assessment to contact me first as I need to understand what went wrong. The call never came and I eventually went to Ryobi Springfield and spoke to the manager who said that he did not see the machine but the technician said it was incorrect fuel mix where extra oil was used. I stated that I am not happy with this assessment (I am a Mechanical Engineer who is perfectly capable of reading an instruction and mixing a 40:1 mixture) and requested that he review the assessment bearing in mind that the machine ran for a total of 4-5 hours. He took my details and said he will call me. (I then made a ‘general enquiry’ with Ryobi JHB and it was mention that extra oil would not damage the machine). No call from Ryobi or Makro was received. I then contacted Makro and requested an update and they said they will get someone to contact me. I was eventually contacted by Ryobi Springfield manager who didn’t seem to know why he was contacting me (understandable), I reminded him of my visit and he said he did inspect the machine and he can confirm that the damage is a result of incorrect fuel mix - excess oil used. I asked him to add this comment to the system (which is linked with Makro). A few days later I contacted Makro to check if the system was updated and it was not. I then said I need the details included in the system. Days later I called Makro again to follow up and was told that Ryobi Springfield does not give details, they just say ‘incorrect mix’. I said that I was already told that the mixture had extra oil but I need this in writing. Not expecting Makro to disclose my enquiry with Ryobi JHB to Ryobi Springfield, I went on to explain why I needed this information documented. After still not receiving any feedback I went to Makro Springfield only to find out that my enquiry with Ryobi JHB was disclosed to Ryobi Springfield and that Ryobi Springfield denies telling me the mix had ‘too much oil’ and the mix had ‘less oil’. This is ********* and totally unacceptable. From initially saying they don’t mention details to customers then saying the opposite of what was initially said to me after knowing about my information from Ryobi JHB, they are *****. When started to get and request things in writing then the story changed? Throughout this ordeal, the people I dealt with were rude and unsupportive. I was continuously told by Makro that this is a Manufacturer Warranty, this machine was bought from Makro not Ryobi and they should support the customer. I should not have to deal with the manufacturer. How many people are being ****** with this ‘incorrect mix’ nonsense and paying to repair products that are poorly manufactured in the first place.
