Makro and Marketplace - The Unreliable Partnership
I purchased a Taurus Slow Juicer on Cyber Monday (26th November 2018) during an "online only" deal (ie, no option to fetch from the store, making paid delivery compulsory). The item was delivered on Friday 30th November 2018. I thoroughly read the instructions and set the machine up exactly as instructed, but it refused to switch on. I double checked that all the components were set up correctly, as I am aware that the machine will not operate if it is not assembled correctly, but it did not switch on or give any indication that it is operational. The machine has therefore never been able to be used.
Following MANY e-mails (because getting hold of the person I originally spoke to over the phone proved impossible) as well as many false promises of collection, eventually, 2 weeks later the item was fetched, with a replacement promised a few days later. I then received an e-mail from Makro to inform me that "Marketplace" (apparently the supplier of this juicer) has closed for the holidays and that I can only get a replacement in the new year, on the 7th of January 2019, almost a month and a half after I originally purchased it (and just in time for festive season gifting, right? Because everyone expects christmas presents in January.)
I know that Makro is losing alot of online business, just from interacting with the people around me, who, like me, will never do business with Makro again, unless they align themselves with reliable suppliers and generally get their act together.
