Gross Customer Mistreatment at Makro

The Incident:

I purchased four items (a 25 x 22g pack of Cheese Naks and a 50s Smoothies pack) totaling R88,40 and 2 4 pack Red Bulls, totalling R133,90. I paid using two different cards, however, the cashier only provided me with one receipt - the one for the 2 4 pack Red Bulls.

Upon attempting to exit, the security personnel refused to let me leave as I did not have the second invoice. To resolve this, I contacted my mother (whose Makro card was used for the transaction), and she immediately sent me the digital invoices. Despite presenting these valid proofs of purchase, your staff refused to accept them, insisting on "original" printed invoices that your own cashier had failed to provide.

The Grounds for Complaint:

The Failure of Point-of-Sale Systems:

The incident began with an error on your end: after paying twice with two different cards, your cashier only handed me a single receipt/invoice. Despite having completed the transaction and paid in full, I was stopped at the exit by security because of your staff's failure to provide the correct documentation at the point of sale.

Unreasonable Refusal of Proof:

What followed was a masterclass in bureaucratic incompetence. I contacted my mother, the Makro cardholder, who immediately sent me the digital invoices. Despite presenting these valid proofs of purchase, your security personnel and staff refused to let me leave. Their insistence on an "original" printed invoice—which your own cashier failed to generate—was not only illogical but served as a pretext to continue my detention.

Public Humiliation and ********isation:

I was forced to sit at the kiosk like a common ********, paraded in front of other patrons who were led to believe I had attempted to ***** R88 worth of goods (a 22x25g pack of Cheese Naks and a large pack of Smoothies). The psychological impact of being treated with such suspicion and hostility over a trivial amount—despite providing proof of payment—is something I do not take lightly.

Complete Absence of Leadership:

Most damning is the fact that throughout this entire process, the Store Manager and Supervisor remained completely absent. They were only contacted because I demanded to speak with them. This proves that there was no internal escalation process and no sense of urgency to resolve a customer's distress. Instead of receiving assistance, I was met with a wall of indifference from the Store Manager, the Supervisor, and the female security officer at the door.

Despite my compliance and the eventual verification of my purchase, the lack of an apology or any meaningful attempt to rectify the situation was the final straw.
